  • Teachers and students of Beijing Dance Academy completed “Happy Chinese New Year” performance tour in three Central and Eastern European countries

  • On January 17, the “Happy Chinese New Year” troupe for a tour of Central and Eastern European countries organized by the Ministry of Culture of China and Beijing Dance Academy departed in Beijing for Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia for performances. The tour troupe was composed of 7 teachers including Deng Youling, Vice President of Beijing Dance Academy; Huang Yihua, Dean of the Chinese Ethnic & Folk Dance Department; Zhu Lanying, Director of the Center for Foreign Cooperation and Exchanges, as well as 30 students enrolled in 2013 from the Chinese Ethnic & Folk Dance Department.
  • During the 18-day tour, teachers and students of Beijing Dance Academy presented 7 Chinese folk dance performances entitled “eaglewood” for the locals in Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia. The positive, optimistic and upbeat mindset of the Chinese nation was exhibited for the audience through 13 dance programs with different styles from 11 ethnic groups in from 9 regions in China. The participants took advantage of the traditional Chinese festival to express Chinese people’s best wishes to the people of the three countries.

     Each performance was greeted with thunderous applause. Students of Beijing Dance Academy brought down the house with their consummate dance skills and vivid performances, presenting the charms of Chinese folk dance for the audience. Many members of the audience took the stage after the performance for group photos with the actors, a sign of their love for Chinese dance and their interest in Chinese culture. Many local media extensively covered the performance events, hailing the dance programs an artistic feast with strong ethnic interest, distinctive regional style and strong artistic expressive force.

      

     During the period of tour, Beijing Dance Academy’s Party Secretary Wang Xudong and President Guo Lei expressed sympathy and concern for the crew, and supported and encouraged them to overcome difficulties and complete the task to show our academy’s great accomplishments in art.

      

     This tour coincided with the Chinese Spring Festival. Mr. Xu Feihong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Romania, and Mr. Lin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Slovakia, invited teachers and students of Beijing Dance Academy to the embassies to jointly celebrate the Spring Festival with the embassy staff. Mr. Wang Zheng, Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Hungary, came to meet with the teachers and students of Beijing Dance Academy on behalf of the ambassador Mr. Duan Jielong, expressing their concern and support for the tour troupe. The dance programs performed by the teachers and students of Beijing Dance Academy created a festive atmosphere in the embassies, ​​and the embassies also gave a home-away-from-away feeling for the teachers and students.

     During the period, Deng Youling, Vice President of Beijing Dance Academy, and Mr. Constantin Chiriac, manager of Radu Stanca National Theatre in Sibiu, Romania and President of Sibiu International Theatre Festival, held talks on performance matters and future cooperation.

      

     At the invitation of Mr. Ioan Bondrea, President of Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, 3 persons including Deng Youling visited the university for discussions on the potential areas of cooperation between the two universities. Accompanied by Mr. Yan Jianwu, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Romania, three persons including Deng Youling paid a courtesy call on Mr. Iustin Cionca, Governor of Arad, Romania. The tour troupe also visited the Hungarian Dance Academy for performance and exchange with the students of the Academy.

    “Culture comes first in the Belt and Road Initiative.” As the envoys of cultural exchanges, the teachers and students of Beijing Dance Academy worked tirelessly to live up to the mission. Through seven splendid performances, they showcased the mindset and colorful national culture of the Chinese nation, provided a platform for the peoples of Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia to learn about China, and a platform for raising the visibility of Chinese dance art. In the wonderful performances with the theme of “eaglewood”, the people of the three countries experienced the lively festive atmosphere of the Chinese Spring Festival. The event cemented the friendship between the Chinese people and the people of the three Central and Eastern European countries in an amiable environment.
